TRANSCRIPT: Welcome back I’m Mark Baratelli editor of the daily city. Thanks for listening and let’s get started with the news!
The Carmel restaurant building at 140 N Orlando Ave is for sale. It’s located across the street from the Trader Joe’s and orange fitness and the shake shack and that cupcake place that’s STILL open regardless of how I feel about their cupcakes…. Built in 2013, the restaurant building has 4,070 sq ft and comes with a 549 sq ft patio, 136 inside seats and 16 patio seats. It’s priced at $3,900,000.
I knew this place would fail THE SECOND I walked in. The managers just seemed like even they didn’t believe in it. I do remember this one hot blonde manager my GOD I think he had to have been a model at a short people modeling agency because he was hot… but short.
The Appearance Review Board recommended approval of Modera Central‘s Master Sign Plan. It’s a 22 story tower on 1.24 acres at the corner of Central & Magnolia at 150 E Central Blvd. UGGGGHHHHH. The sign style is basic, uninteresting, white toast, lacking in effort, and of course… san serif. It’s like much of the signage hanging on Thornton Park’s high rises. The absolute bare minimum. It’s as if these downtown and Thornton park high rise developers don’t know that design (1) exists and (2) makes our city better. Developers. They don’t care. About you.
Modera Central 350 apartment units, 13,465 s.f. of ground floor retail space, 19,500 sq ft for the University Club and a 514-space integrated parking garage that includes a resident amenity area and pool on the roof deck of the parking garage.
Modera Central is a project of Mill Creek Residential who says first move-ins are anticipated for fall of 2018.
The Doerr House at 324 Desoto Circle was recommended by the Historic Preservation Board to City Council as an Orlando Local Historic Landmark. Built in 1940, the home is designed in the International Style/Art Moderne. … style.. I It was built for William J. Doerr a, former owner of ea Great Dane Trailers on OBT which was distinguished with a 20 foot high Great Dane statue. It The dog was removed in 2002, when the business was sold.
The house was designed, according to the current owner, by Richard Boone Rogers. And is a contributing structure in the Lake Ivanhoe National Register District.
Y’all know I love me some historic preservation,. We live in a city with a very small collection of old homes and buildings. Even though older homes have gotten demolished in the past 10 years, I am glad this one is safe. But personally I think the houses looks like a white box with VERRRRY litte ornamentation. Knock it down and I wouldn’t be sad about it.
The owner of Bebe’s and Liz’s dress store , Liz, at 311 S. Park Avenue requested an appeal to City Council February 26th for the denial they received to close a portion of down Park Ave between New England Avenue and Lyman Avenue April 29th 10am to 5pm for a “fashion runway show.”
A 7 hour “fashion runway show.”
What the effing hell is she thinking? I know most of the time will be for set up and break down and shuttling “models” to and from the stage, but still. To block off a n entire block of Park Ave for 7 hours and thinking shop owners and the public would be ok with it… FOR A FASHION SHOW… M’am? M’am.
Staff had earlier denied the event because of the complaints from other merchants each time the city approves a new closure of Park Avenue. While some merchants benefit others complain of lost revenue the city said.
The store owner says they “are in dire need of customers” and that the avenue “needs more events to draw people…” Their Facebook page says the two stores are “the most exclusive and unique children’s and women’s clothing on the Avenue and in the Central Florida area!”
