The @citybeautiful is going to SHAKE UP the old downtown Information center with the help of the local creative company at Prismatic.
As we reported in January, the new food truck park “À La Cart Street Food and Craft Beer” is coming to to 615 Irvington Avenue in The Milk District. The culinary and craft beer hub just announced it will open in July. They also announced their truck lineup which will be serving up Poke Bowls and Burgers, Vietnamese and Korean fusion dishes, Brazilian meat skewers, Swedish meatballs and burgers and 45 varieties of Brazilian empanadas. hThe venue will feature an open-air pavilion with seating for 61 guests along with 15 taps from artisan breweries and an outdoor courtyard with lawn games. À La Cart Street Food and Craft Beer will be open seven days a week 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday – Thursday and 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday – Saturday.

The Developer of a hotel project in SODO has submitted an application for review and approval as a designated Transit Oriented Development (TOD). The project consists of a 6-story, 110-room hotel called TownPlace Suites by Marriott on 2.13 acres at 51 Columbia Street in SODO. If approved as a Transit Oriented Development, the developer will receive a 25% reduction in Transportation Impact Fees because it meets or exceeds city code for pedestrian facilities and bike facilities. The total reduction will be $92,000. The developer could have received an additional 25% reduction had the hotel project (1) been composed of a mixture of land uses, including residential, with the ground floor consisting of primarily active uses and (2) agreed to fund or subsidize transit ridership for employees and residents. City staff support the reduction. It goes before City Council for approval June 25th.

Ivanhoe Park Brewing Company has released its soft opening hours for its new location at 1300 Alden Road in Ivanhoe Village. Starting July 2nd hours it’ll be open Thursday 4-10pm, Friday 4-10pm, Saturday 12-8pm, and Sunday 12-8pm. Ivanhoe Park Brewing Company is an independent craft beer maker.

In fiscal year 2017 – 2018, Florida Hospital received $18,421,896 and ORMC received $10,753,953 to cover the costs of providing healthcare for the indigent and uninsured. Florida Hospital and ORMC wanted, and is now going to get, even more. On June 11, Orlando City Council voted unanimously to adopt a resolution which would allowing the State to pay ORMC and Florida Hospital and Nemours a much higher percentage of their uncompensated charity care costs to maintain and even expand their charity care programs. That money comes from the State of Florida Agency for Health Care Administration Medicaid Program Finance Low Income Pool (LIP) program. LIP was to have ended June 2017 according to the Obama administration because the Medicaid expansion that was coming would have covered what LIP had been covering since 2006. That expansion never came. In 2017 Governor Scott and the Trump administration said the LIP program would continue.

The plaza area between the north and south tower of the Zora Neale Hurston State of Florida Regional Service Center at 400 W. Robinson Street will be renovated. The existing plaza is a series of large, paved, tiered spaces at different elevations with step transitions that impede fluid movement around the plaza. There are also several large planter areas surrounded by seat walls between the plaza terraces that also restrict movement around the plaza. The redevelopment plans greatly reduce the amount of pavement area in favor of landscape and open lawns. The existing terraced areas have also been greatly reduced providing smoother unrestricted flow through the plaza because of less vertical impediments. New furniture, lighting and pergolas are also identified in the plaza redevelopment plans. The north and south towers of the Zora Neale Hurston State of Florida Regional Service Center were completed in 1977 and 1987. The plaza area that connects the two buildings was begun and completed in the same time period.

Let’s get to the news!

An urban orchard may be coming to an Orlando Park if the Citys’ Parks and Rec Department wins a $20,000 grant from the National Recreation and Park Association. They had to to send in three ideas for the grant. The orchard is the most creative of the three but all three are pretty great which I have to say because one deals with disabled kids and the other one deals with a neighborhood called Malibu Groves… I mean…

Creating an orchard at Dr. I. Sylvester Hankins Park near the neighborhood center building at 1340 Lake Park Court

Installing outdoor fitness equipment at Ivey Lane Neighborhood Center.

Installing adjustable basketball goals to allow children and people with disabilities to play basketball at the Engelwood Neighborhood Center.

If Parks and Rec wins the grant, which project of the three to be funded will be decided on through an online voting process.

Orange County Public Schools requested a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) to establish an Edgewater High School agricultural education facility, a public benefit use in a residential zoning district. It’s got funding from 4Rivers, Dr Phillips Charities, Kiwanis and Florida Blue. The name of the facility will be 4Roots Farm. According to the renderings provided to the City, the facility will include a greenhouse, several above ground garden boxes, a large garden patch and… a bathroom. I am all for this. I love walking by or standing still or driving by the gardens in front of East End Market and seeing living thriving food-providing plants. I’m a grown ass woman with a full time job and in the hustle and bustle of owning a thriving small business and raising two imaginary children, I forget that gardens exist.

After an August 2017 courtesy review and a March 2018 final review, Appearance Review Board Staff recommended approval with conditions for the Major Certificate of Appearance Approval Request for the Cambria Suites Hotel project at 170 E. Washington Street.

Cambria will be a 7 story, 155 room hotel with a roof bar, 82 parking spaces, a ground floor restaurant, an exterior amenity deck on the third floor and other associated ancillary uses.

During the August 2017 courtesy review, the ARB staff was “very pleased with the building design.” They had a few concerns including the west facade being blank, the balancing of pedestrian and vehicle needs along E. Washington Street and how the realities of practical development requirements such as transformers, back flow preventers and stormwater systems may impact the final design and configuration along Washington Street.

After the courtesy review the applicant team collaborated with the ARB Staff to resolve several building functions, including: solid waste pick-up and loading and unloading areas and procedures. These discussions led to design solutions that increased the functionality and the appearance of the site.

During the March 2018 final review Staff showed excitement about newly added golden metal mesh covering the elevator tower on the Rosalind facade. Staff said it “delivers a more refined Mid-Century Modern feel to the hotel, retro and cool. The same metal mesh is also being used as a new treatment to screen the second level of the parking garage. The blank wall on the south facade remained unaddressed by the applicants. They must continue to work with staff to improve these ares prior to submittal of building permits.

A Downtown 5-Story Townhouse Project Got theThumbs Up from ARB Staff. The Kinchla—Fountain Vu 5 Townhouses got the thumbs up from the Appearance Review Board Staff Thursday after a February 2018 courtesy review and March final review. They recommended approval for the Major Certificate of Appearance with conditions. The Municipal Planning Board public hearing for this project is scheduled for this month. The project is located at 330 Broadway, one block from Lake Eola Park.

The developer, Mark Kinchla, stated in the Master Plan request that one of the benefits for the future residents of Fountain VU 5 is the “close proximity to the historic district.” Kinchla is a Orlando Historic Preservation Award Winner and is responsible for several downtown developments including Sansara, a former church turned million dollar condos.

It’s ironic because this project will cause the loss of a home built in 1921 and place a 56.5-ft high townhouse project on the edge of a max 35-ft high nationally historic protected neighborhood.

The project is only possible because of the property and home’s long and odd history. The property and the home built in 1921 were supposed to be included in the Lake Eola Heights Historic District, but due to a statement in 1989 by a City Council person and the City siding with the property owner in a legal dispute, the property was left out of the historic district, therefor left unprotected from development.

Here are Changes Listed in the Final Review:

Between the ARB member’s discussion during the February Courtesy Review and the concerns addressed in the letters received from residents of the Lake Eola Heights Historic District, several project-related items were identified that either needed additional information provided or required additional design revisions or considerations.

Lake Eola Heights Historic District residents suggested the project should face Broadway , the street the house built in 1921 currently faces, not Ridgewood, the street that intersects with Broadway and that would place the front of the townhouses facing Lake Eola Park. The lot across the street has the same site geometry and the house on it faces Broadway. But, Staff said “the site geometry is more efficient if the townhouse units fronted onto E. Ridgewood St” AKA the developer will still get to sell townhouses with a fifth floor view of Lake Eola. The Staff also say that 323 Broadway is “only one” structure along Ridgewood that faces Broadway. What?

Staff also noted the Presbyterian Church on the north side of the same block does not front Broadway. That church was constructed in 1925, four years after the house. Also, that church lot’s site geometry isn’t the same as the project’s.

HOWEVER… Staff felt the Fountain Vu5 project should address and respect the Broadway Ave. frontage, so a scallop shaped canopy has been added to the plans over the side door.

The architecture has continued to evolve since the February 2018 Courtesy Review, but not much. The 4th and 5th floor have been shoved 2-feet towards Ridgewood to alter the massing. The third floor cornice has been widened making the southern shift of the 4th and 5th floor appear to be even greater. The separation wall between the units on the 4th floor terrace has been reduced in height, too. MMkay…

ARB Staff stated “the applicant has made substantial strides defining and refining the architecture and appearance of the Fountain Vu5 project and is therefore recommending approval so the project can move forward.”

Thanks for listening and let’s get started with the news!

The Carmel restaurant building at 140 N Orlando Ave is for sale. It’s located across the street from the Trader Joe’s and orange fitness and the shake shack and that cupcake place that’s STILL open regardless of how I feel about their cupcakes…. Built in 2013, the restaurant building has 4,070 sq ft and comes with a 549 sq ft patio, 136 inside seats and 16 patio seats. It’s priced at $3,900,000.

I knew this place would fail THE SECOND I walked in. The managers just seemed like even they didn’t believe in it. UGGGGHHHHH. The sign style is basic, uninteresting, white toast, lacking in effort, and of course… san serif. It’s like much of the signage hanging on Thornton Park’s high rises. The absolute bare minimum. It’s as if these downtown and Thornton park high rise developers don’t know that design (1) exists and (2) makes our city better. Developers. They don’t care. About you.

And is a contributing structure in the Lake Ivanhoe National Register District.

Y’all know I love me some historic preservation,. We live in a city with a very small collection of old homes and buildings. Even though older homes have gotten demolished in the past 10 years, I am glad this one is safe. But personally I think the houses looks like a white box with VERRRRY litte ornamentation. Knock it down and I wouldn’t be sad about it.

The owner of Bebe’s and Liz’s dress store , Liz, at 311 S. Park Avenue requested an appeal to City Council February 26th for the denial they received to close a portion of down Park Ave between New England Avenue and Lyman Avenue April 29th 10am to 5pm for a “fashion runway show.”

A 7 hour “fashion runway show.”

What the effing hell is she thinking? I know most of the time will be for set up and break down and shuttling “models” to and from the stage, but still. To block off a n entire block of Park Ave for 7 hours and thinking shop owners and the public would be ok with it… FOR A FASHION SHOW… M’am? M’am.

Staff had earlier denied the event because of the complaints from other merchants each time the city approves a new closure of Park Avenue. While some merchants benefit others complain of lost revenue the city said.

The store owner says they “are in dire need of customers” and that the avenue “needs more events to draw people…” Their Facebook page says the two stores are “the most exclusive and unique children’s and women’s clothing on the Avenue and in the Central Florida area!”

The hotel and restaurant will be opening inside the bones of a former office building and restaurant at 1315 S. Orange Ave (MAP). The $20,000 will go towards the required connection to the City of Orlando sanitary sewer, storm drainage and water distribution systems which totals $90,000.

The Orlando Police Department will be receiving sixty-three new vehicles (seventeen 2018 Ford Interceptor FWD Police Sedans and Forty-six Ford Police Interceptor Utility vehicles. The total expenditure will be $1,953,514. I’m sorry. How did police work get done in the days when all they had were cars and no SUVs? And why are we buying new? And why do we have to go through a local dealership to buy them? Why not go directly to Ford and avoid the middleman? Why is the City even paying retail? And why are we buying Fords??!!!

Downtown is getting a new park! For ten years! The City will be leasing a vacant parcel of land for 10 years starting this month to be used as a pop up park and plaza at 274 N. Orange Avenue in downtown Orlando. Dr. Phillips City Center, LLC owns the property and plans to develop the Property in the future but has agreed to lease it to the City for this 10 year period.

The park and plaza, according to early renderings, may include a window-service restaurant and food trucks with outdoor restaurant style seating, and other seating areas.

The city can enter into a management contract with a third-party vendor for the operation of an on-site food and beverage service. HERE’S THE PART THAT MAKES YOU GO HMMMMMM. “No food or beverages (other than water) will be distributed from the Premises that is not paid for by the consumer at prices equivalent to those prices offered by business establishments in the Downtown Orlando Central Business District.” Isn’t that called price fixing? Collusion? Something? Why is the City involved in the prices charged by a third party? And was it forced by the downtown restaurants? These are things we will be finding out in the coming weeks.

No rent will be paid by the City. They’ll just pay the annual insurance fee of $1,500 and reimburse DPC approximately $17,269.82 annually for ad valorem taxes and stormwater utility fees imposed on the Property. The City is responsible for maintenance. No monuments, plaques, memorials, or tributes may be erected or maintained on the property.

At the end of the lease, the City won’t remove the improvements made to the premises. They will become property of Dr. Phillips City Center, LLC. This project seems extremely unlike what the City typically does. It feels too innovative for them to envision and execute. So I am thrilled. It’s in a dead zone of Orange, far away from the shitty barf-strewn bars of Wall Street and that bar alley along Orange. And where will folks park? Listen to me. I sound like a jackass. Yay park! For ten years! With food trucks next to nothing….

Robinson is getting two way cycle tracks! Robinson runs from the Parramore to the Orlando Executive Airport, and borders many of Downtown’s historic residential neighborhoods. It’s getting an overhaul! The part I give a shit about is the part about bikes: Robinson will be getting two-way cycle tracks along 1.4 miles of the road’s 2.3 mile length.

Two-way cycle tracks are physically separated from auto traffic and allow bicycle movement in both directions on one side of the road. Two-way cycle tracks protect bicycle space and improves perceived comfort and safety. The increased width allows safer overtaking for bicyclists.

The cycle tracks run from the Central Business District to the Milk District. The only spot that won’t have them is the .9 mile length running from Hyer to Bumby. That area will put bikes and cars in the same lanes

(exhale) For the average driver, who is not yet familiar with BtU, like every human being in Central Florida, it might be easiest to think of BtU as an extension of the massive I-4 Ultimate Project. Fuck. BtU extends the eastern endpoint of the managed lanes another 20 miles and also adds 20 miles to its western endpoint. When complete, it will cover twice the length of the current I-4 Ultimate project. (exhale) Both BtU and I-4 Ultimate will improve pavement, ramps and interchanges, and both projects will maintain the current six non-tolled lanes while adding four dynamic tolled Express Lanes (two in each direction). The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) oversees both projects. God dammit! When you bitch about traffic, don’t bitch at the cars, bitch at these fucking turd fucks who continue to build highways and build highways and build highways and REFUSE to give us public transportation… and the DEVELOPERS who continue to build planned residential developments farther out and farther out, which pleases the developers of shopping centers which them selves give locals the wretched experience of paring and walking, removing the concept of city centers and downtowns from Central Florida’s collective consience. So DO NOT yell in your car while on I4 about the cars in front of and behind you… yell at the people in charge of creating… your life.

If you’re poor don’t listen to this next story. The former Crate & Barrel space at the Bloomingdales end of Mall at Millenia (the clean classy quiet good place with no bath and body work shoppers swinging baskets and buying lavandar lotions) is becoming an Hermes store. And before you watch I APOLOGIZE for never taking into account the about-to-be-out-of-work employees… because all I do in the video is cry and weep sarcastically that the city is losing a bit of its heart with the closing of the store. And you should see the comments on facebook: PEOPLE AGREE WITH ME. I never knew so many people loved Crate and Barrel. So I apologize to them and the former employees. The City of Orlando will investigate approaches for deploying solar photovoltaic (PV) and solar PV plus storage to increase resiliency of municipal operations and achieve the 100% renewable energy goals set out in August 2017. The City will expend $169,000 to carry this out. The city is receiving a grant award for $140,000, and contributing 20% of that amount ($28,117.12) to cover its matching requirements in the form of staff time. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory will also match this grant with additional technical and financial support.
The Orlando Bicycle Beltway, one of 10 neighborhood infrastructure improvements coming to Orlando, is an 8.25 mile loop that will circle through the Central Business District all the way to Fashion Square/Colonial area and back once completed. It will ultimately connect Downtown to the region’s trail system. This beltway will utilize the existing Orlando Urban Trail, Cady Way Trail, and Lake Underhill Path. It’s a part of the 40-mile network of urban bike trails within the City of Orlando. There has been a focus on completing the beltway due to the addition of the bike share program, increased residential density, burgeoning sports and entertainment complexes, and new and expanding bus and rail transit options. To complete the project, two gaps must be addressed: (1) The North Quarter area which needs to connect to the existing Dinky Line Trail at Magnolia and (2) The Downtown Connector Trail: the southern section of the beltway which will start at the existing Lake Underhill Path and travel west along Anderson Street to Rosalind Avenue, nearly two miles. It will be a minimum of ten feet wide. This segment of trail will better connect the Lake Como, Lake Davis, and Lake Cherokee neighborhoods with a safe and convenient alternative transportation option to access the Central Business District.

AND FINALLY….

In 2016 we told you Publix spent $1 million “lobbying lawmakers to pass legislation that would pre-empt local governments from enacting bans on Styrofoam containers” according to the Miami Herald.
Now we have another attempt at taking Florida cities’ rights to regulate away and giving them to the state. Bill SB 574 called “Tree and Timber Trimming, Removal, and Harvesting” was filed with the Senate by Republican Senator from Sarasota Greg Steube October 20th, referred to Community Affairs; Environmental Preservation and Conservation November 2nd and Introduced to the Senate January 9th.

The language of the bill is as follows: “Tree and Timber Trimming, Removal, and Harvesting; Preempting to the state the regulation of the trimming, removal, or harvesting of trees and timber on private property; prohibiting local governments from prohibiting the burial of vegetative debris on certain properties, etc.”

“Preempting to the state” means removal of home rule: the decisions currently made by City of Orlando would be made by the State. The reason the Senator gave for creating this is he wanted to cut down trees and bury debris on his 1 acre of property, but according to City code, he had to get permits to remove the trees and had to pay the City for the removal of the debris. So, he filed this bill. Hit it!

A production microbrewery called Ellipsis Brewing opened its doors near the airport at 7500 TPC Blvd Suite #8. The brewery specializes in hand crafted beers and cost $650,000 to create.

The project consisted of a complete interior renovation of the approximately 7500 sq ft space. 5 jobs were created because of the project. In addition to the 60-seat bar, Ellipsis will sell its original recipe brand beers to local restaurants and retail establishments. It is a member of the Florida Brewers Guild and received $10,000 from the City through the Business Assistance Program. The LLC’s office is located in St Cloud at 130 Montana Ave.

Breweries are the new fro yo, cupcake and food truck and the new ones seem to be almost exclusively white owned. With the new brewery laws that the City passed, every rich male is building one branded with bad logos and facebook pages full of photos of kegs, unpainted walls, painted walls, and closeups of wheat and glasses of half-drunken beer. It’s like, “Here’s what rich frat boys do when they make their first millions in some other industry!” They build breweries. Yaasss frat queen Werk frat momma! Or it’s husbands sick of their wives opening cupcake shops and fro yo food tucks and going “I’m gonna go open MY dream now!” So why don’t we all come together and build Orlando’s first cupcake brewery?

Have you seen the brand “Greenwise” at Publix? It’s their organic and natural product brand, always overpriced like their deli chicken fingers and uppity like the customers who buy them. In 2007 Publix launched a plan to build Greenwise STORES. Three got built then the idea got shelved. The final one was built a year later.

Well now that Amazon is breathing down Publix’s chicken (expletive removed) neck with their Whole Foods buy, they’re bringing back the old Greenwise store idea as Greenwise Markets. The first of this version 2 point oh flimsy cheap chicken (expletive removed) Whole Food knock off idea will open in Tallahassee late 2018, with the second opening early 2019 in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. At 25,000 sq ft each, the stores will focus on the specialty, natural and organic sector.

I want, I pray for, I dream of the day when Amazon STABS the FACE of Publix and brings this styrofoam-loving, plastic bag-using skeleton-puke of a company to its knees so bad it is forced to release the CHOKEHOLD it has in Orlando on grocery locations. Orlando deserve variety in markets, which Publix doesn’t want. Choke on your pub sub if you disagree and Publix wet that pub sub up really good then insert it into your (expletive removed).

The Daily City told you back in May that the former Lombardi Seafood building at 1152 Harmon Ave in Winter Park was to become a hybrid coffee shop, mercantile store and paint shop. However, since then their plans did not come to fruition and the shop never opened.

A new rumor has surfaced that a new team will take over the space and do something similar. The minds and muscle behind Downtown Credo and and Porch Therapy will be turning the space into a hybrid coffee shop, retail store and local maker shop. The tentative opening is Spring 2018. The Daily City has reached out to Downtown Credo for confirmation on this rumor.

How much of Parramore does the City of Orlando own? The City owns portions of Parramore? WHAAAT!? Yes bitch. The Daily City found out some answers. You’re welcome.

Residential: The City is required to inventory all the vacant lots it owns within the City (including Parramore and beyond) that are appropriate for potential use as affordable housing every 3 years per Florida Statutes, Section 166.0451. Is anyone going to play this back and fact-check that that number is correct? Anybody listening? Momma? The most recent count was on April 10, 2017. The City owns 59 vacant lots that are appropriate for potential use as affordable housing (View the Complete List) with 50 of those being in Parramore.

Commercial: (wicked laughter) According to City of Orlando Records Specialist Lesley Smith, the City “does not have records of all City owned property in Parramore.” The Daily City has reached out to the City for clarification on this statement. And by clarification I mean me (expletive removed) slapping some truth out of the City of Orlando Records department. And if I can’t? You’ll hear about it here first!”

The Farmacy, an organic grocery is the first vendor to pull out of North Quarter Market, a charming coffee shop and retail space on the 1st floor of NORA apartment building at 855 N. Orange Avenue in the North Quarter district of downtown. The remaining vendors include Credo Coffee and Pop Parlor. Traffic wasn’t busy enough to warrant the organic veggie vendor to remain in the space. They’ll open a space in downtown eventually but for now are retreating to their charming Winter Garden location at 18 E. Joiner Street. Coffee will work in this space but nothing else except grab and go meals. The building needs to subsidize the space for new vendors to take the risk or it’ll never take off. Or just rent it out to Dunkin. Who cares? It’s the North Quarter, a district named by developers and at the same time ruined by the work of those developers. It’s all apartment buildings with next to zero retail options. I did a piece about it a year ago but my boyfriend told me to take it down. I walked readers building by building, business by business, proving the area is dead retail-wise with very few exceptions.

Adjaye Associates’ conceptual design for the $30 million dollar Winter Park Public Library and Events Center was presented to the public recently. The buildings will go in the Martin Luther King Jr. Park at Morse & Harper in Winter Park. The goal is to have the library open by 2020. Executive Architects on the project will be HuntonBrady. This building you must see. It’s nonsensical but not in a charming way. Look, the architect is internationally known and has done buildings of signifigance all over the world but THIS non-architect calls bullshit. This looks like a building designed to mimic a 1060s building for a scrapped land at Disney World called “Modern Ville Time Era of Tomororrow Space Race Googie Inpersonal Disgrace.” It’s horrid. The architect claims it blends into the park and lake but really it dukes out a cement plaza for people to bake in the sun on. Go to the blog and see it. It’s truly abysmal and I’m sure will be hated for generations of Winter Parkanites to come.

Leguminati, a vegan food maker that has sold food out of a tent at Tasty Tuesdays and The District in Mills50 for over a year now has found a permanent home within the Sandwich Bar in the Mills50 District. A full renovation will take place in the space. Opening is scheduled for early November. That seems ambitious if not impossible. But judging from the numbers the daily city is getting from our stories about vegan anything, this town is dying for vegan food. I bet they score big. I don’t see them staying in this space long. Someone will lure them away to a better busier spot.

Starbucks is launching a co-branded Chase Visa credit card in the winter. Users will get Starbucks Rewards points for any purchase they make, even if it’s outside the store. This was announced last week. This is the second co-branded credit card Starbucks has executed. The Duetto card was in use 2003-2010. Co-branded credit cards accounted for 31% of all credit card purchases in 2014.

Credit card companies like co-branded cards because it gives them a built-in audience and “major sales channel.” They’re “designed to give the issuing bank access to the retailer’s customer base.” Getting those cards in the hands of customers, however, is hard for some stores. According to Advantage Consulting, less than 4 in 10 may be approved. And many credit card companies require minimums of 15,000-20,000 cards issued. Stores also like these cards because they make money off of them beyond the basic sale: (1) a bonus is paid by the credit card companies to the stores every time a new customer signs up, (2) stores don’t have to pay a fee to the credit card company when the cards are used by their customers, and (3) they get a cut of the interest payments their customers pay to the credit card companies. Isn’t that FASCINATING? I sincerely think it is. Who knew stores and coffee shops were PROFITING off these cards beyond collecting data? I didn’t.

And finally…

The 2016 BBC documentary This World: Frat Boys is now streaming on Netflix. Viewers are invited to “follow along” as UCF students try to join what Gerard O’Donovan calls a “bizarre American social construct” – the fraternity. It focuses on one Orlando fraternity: an unofficial unsanctioned off-campus UCF one called the Gazoni Family. It’s a former UCF chapter of the fraternity Lambda Chi Alpha. UCF made it an unregistered student organization in 2015. The group rebranded themselves and continued with the financial help of former members.
